- Prologue -

Snow fell lightly as the sun began to crest the horizon. Another cold winters day had just begun on this desolate planet once known as Earth. A light breeze carried the snow as it settled on the beach of Lake Gloval. Glistening across the frozen water, the sun rose higher into the morning sky. The ominous hulk of the SDF-1 stood waist high in the middle of the lake. Its figure a continued reminder of the great sacrifices people had made to defend their beloved planet.

A dark figure stood in the shadow of some nearby trees. Wrapped in a thick trench coat he stood gazing at the awesome site of this once magnificent ship. Emotions made their way onto his face as he remembered the long voyage from the outer edge of the solar system to their home on earth and the great losses they suffered upon their return.

Another figure approached the first. With a quick pace he stopped just short of the first and snapped to attention raising his arm in a military salute.

"Admiral, its time Sir."

"Already? Very well. Let's go."

The Admiral stood for another moment gazing at the fortress. He then made his way to a nearby executive vehicle where the aid stood with the door opened waiting for the Admrial. As the Admiral began to enter the vehicle he stopped and turned his head one last time to capture a look at the massive ship. It stood for so much. There was so much pride in the memory of that ship. How could anyone want it destroyed?

"Let's go." The Admrial said again as he turned away from the ship and entered the vehicle. The small figure closed the door and entered the passenger side as the car began to roll away stirring up a cloud of snow.

The wind picked up the snow and blew it to the shore of Lake Gloval. The sun had broken the horizon and lit up the lake as if it were on fire. Again the snow settled.
